From 2022-2023, GISP partners organized a series of regional convenings to increase the visibility of parent and caregiver support by sharing the evidence on parent and caregiver support initiatives, generating policy dialogue to strengthen implementation of these initiatives, and facilitate their scale up. Regional convenings create spaces for knowledge sharing, access to global guidance, and strengthening of local commitments to support children and families.
The convenings were led by WHO with participation and support from global, regional, and national partners, including UNICEF, regional early childhood development networks (including the African Early Childhood Network, the Asia-Pacific Regional Network for Early Childhood, and the Arab Network for Early Childhood), Parenting for Lifelong Health, the Early Childhood Development Action Network, the Global Partnership to End Violence Against Children, and other government, academic, and CSO partners. The convenings were organized with the financial support of USAID.
Convening presenters and attendees represented a wide range of stakeholders united by their work or interest in supporting parents and caregivers. This includes governments, civil society organizations, program implementers, philanthropies, multilateral organizations, bilateral funders, private sector organizations, universities, parents’ networks, schools and daycare centers, hospitals, and others.
The regional convenings will culminate in a Global Parenting Forum to be held in June 2024.
